Leave your whole head empty like a straight pumpkin.

"Country and Alternative"
What a dick.
Love,
Bo

p.s. Totally what I'm going for. Humcero.

Real As Penitentiary Steel

I'm pretty sure Bo has been sipping on that I can fuck with him juice. Despite what our bass player/flannel enthusiast claims, my recent absences from the studio have all been excused. Complete with signed notes from my legal guardian, Slo-dee. On the day in question, Mr. Slodysko returned to our residence from class at approximately 10:00AM. He found me face down, mostly on my bed, fully clothed, and with the lights on. Apparently I was guarding a nearby pizza that I had mostly cooked the night before, but likely forgot about before falling asleep in a curiously rapid fashion. If that doesn't scream "sick day" I don't know what does.

Enough about me being down with the sickness. Scotty is currently in the booth with his tacklebox, digging around for the biggest hooks. Hard at work on his Milo costume for Halloween, he is pictured at left with Jenny Lewis. I don't really know who Jenny Lewis is, but something tells me she wouldn't know a tasty jam if it slapped the headband off her.

Speaking of big hooks, former Shook Ones beatdown man/Sinking Ships "Benedict Arnold" Nasty Nathan Huddle prefers them 10/0. He also prefers apple flavored Gerber and Huggies Pull-Ups. That's right, Bellingham's hottest export since Brenthaven is gonna be a proud parent any day now. He will be rounding out the line-up for Greatest Dads on Earth with Andrew "The Package" Pack and Jeremy "Legends" McAlister. Catch them at the Humdinger performing their Raffi-esque take on "Lodi Dodi," guest vox by Little Chris Lombardi. Congradulations to Nate and Lauren, love y'all.

Speaking of matriarchs, let's check in with Granny Shookerson and see how the scrapbookin' is coming:

"The worst burning you've ever felt, swear to christ."

"Oh, I get it. Country AND Alternative..."

"Pandemic!"

"Jackson played drums and I saw god."

"Eligible."

"Cousin Jeff's best Ween shirt."

Vocal Test

Updates:
More X's on the board.

I had to go home for a couple days to explain in lengthy detail over and over how the "per person/per game" system works, and pretend that I have heard of your "co-worker who used to bowl professionally" or "was a regular at this bowling alley for years".
But I'm back, for tonight at least. Jackson (who I'm pretty sure hasn't slept more than 12 hours since we started) , Scott, and I are in here now doing some more guitar tracks.

Funds was supposed to come in earlier but must've misplaced his phone, had something really important and productive to do, built a Gingerbread house, conducted and/or attended an important business meeting, or gave his elderly neighbor a ride to the local co-op. Surely he didn't just ignore Jackson's calls and sleep in well past the time we have met here every single day since we started recording. Not a chance.

Scott has even done a couple of vocal joints today. Mostly whoa-age. It sounds hot.

Jimmy is back home until The Fest enjoying not flying out here every week, working at Philly's hottest nightclub, and frequenting pumpkin patches. Jealous.
And Kelly is busy shaping the minds of young America tonight.
We have 4 days left in here.
Stuff is sounding great.
Jackson is killing it. As Always.
I'm out!
-Bo
p.s. Just the worst, most uninteresting choice of photos. Sorry.

Scrapbookin'

Some select shots from Grandma Shookerson's family scrapbook (complete with her irreverent captions):
"Gimme Your Bird"

"I can't believe I left the ExtenZe in my other pants!"

"4 into 8, sounds great. 8 into 4, pay a lot more"

"Like shooting fish in a barrel"

"Insert head joke here"

Feel free to leave your own captions in the comments section kids.

So reading Jimmy's blog entries is about as stimulating as peeping "Finnegan's Wake" on ketamine. Praise the deity of your choosing, faithful readers, for I am here to deliver y'all to the promised land of Shook Ones edutainment.

First and foremost, the new record will sound pretty much like what you see on the left. Loud, and 3/5ths imported. So that's the good news. The bad news is that Kelly and I still suck like Hoovers at guitar. Basically the tracking has come out sounding like Disorder wandered into Black Sabbath's practice space and started ineptly bashing their gear. Undeterred, Jackson Long has stuck with us and things will probably end up sounding as polished as Mr. Miyagi's car.

Second, Bo lit an Oliver B120 on fire the other day. Not really on purpose, but he was stoked. Fortunately for everyone, the tape was rolling and the pure sonic ecstasy of a burning amplifier should make it on the record. Also, he really likes Erykah Badu.

To the right is our board of progress. When all the boxes are x'd up and proud we will be done. In case you can't tell at home, I'm ahead of Kels. Ha! They don't teach you my kind of work ethic out in Bellevue.

Finally, here's what's spinning during the making of this record:

Captain Beyond "Captain Beyond"
Dismember "Dismember"
Some really shitty Drive By Truckers CD in Bo's Car
R. Kelly "Twelfth Play Fourth Quarter" (also in Bo's whip)
Misc. Honey Badger noises on Scott's computer
Some "little kid ninja" anime on Kelly's computer
DJ Drama and Lil Wayne "The Dedication 2"
A lot of Hum
A bit of Incredible Kidda Band
Only the song "Last Cigarette" by Dramarama (love it!)
Poison Idea "Feel the Darkness"

Lates,
Zack

PS- Word to Ced Dog and Lynn for visiting from Belgium, solos to be shredded next time.

Studio Day 7

It's Sunday. I (jimmy) flew back home to Philadelphia on Thursday after finishing up tracking the drums. Bo did his bass tracks on Thursday and Friday. One song was so raging, the bass amp literally caught on fire. So all this left Scott with a lot of time on his hands. Scott used this time to work on his stand up comedy routine and also discover a new found interest in Badgers. So we're about half way through tracking all the songs for the new record. I'm really happy with how things are going. I'm even more excited to play the new songs live. Check back for more videos of us in the studio.

It's Badger Season

Started tracking today at Two Sticks Audio in Seattle.  Spent all day doing drum tracks and searching for the source of this phantom "buzz" that has been plaguing Bo's amp.  Here are a few videos of us tracking a couple songs.  stay tuned for more.

Recording Starts Today

So after a cross country flight, very little sleep, and a lot of snacks... we got started in the studio today. Check back for some videos of us recording the new full length and Funds and Kelly acting like total jerks.
